FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ========================== I have a very old car that no longer runs, and I want to scrap it. Please advise what I should do. If you wish to scrap a vehicle, or officially "remove" it from the records, you will need to complete a Baja form stating the reason for the request. If a garage has inspected the vehicle, they will have a certificate to confirm the vehicle is no longer roadworthy. If the vehicle has been stolen, the Denuncia (Police report) will need to be presented. The Residencia or NIE + passport of the vehicle owner also has to be presented, plus a receipt for latest road tax and copies of all presented documents. In addition, you should also produce the original car papers, if these are available, plus copies. If a Baja is not carried out, the vehicle will continue to be liable for road tax, even if it is not actually on the road or being driven. All the requisite papers should be handed to the Trafico office in Alicante, who will stamp the carbon copy of the Baja form for your retention. Pleast note that the road tax for the whole of the current year will have to be paid, although a refund can be requested from the Suma/Javea Town Hall office for the part of the year remaining after the date the Trafico Office administered the Baja (i.e. not the date the vehicle was stolen or scrapped by the garage). I want to take my dog from here to England - what are the requirements? This is not really my area, but I can advise you that your dog will need to have a "passport" issued by a local vet. This includes confirmation that your pet has been microchipped and registered with an identity tag, and has received a rabies injection and a parasite treatment against tapeworm and tics. The rabies and parasitic treatment must be carried out at a specific time prior to travel for the passport to be valid ( I believe between 24 to 48 hours), so it is important you speak with a veterinary clinic as soon as possible to ensure you have complied with all requsite treatments and timescales. I have a SIP card entitling me to medical treatment under the Spanish national health system. Does this also cover dentistry charges? The nearest national health dentist is the Centro de Especialidades clinic at Denia - tel: 96 578 6527. However, they deal with extractions only, and even then you have to present a "volante" (doctor's note) to confirm the extraction is urgent and unavoidable. Whilst on the subject of SIP (national health) cards, several years' ago a number of these cards were sent out to European individuals living in Spain, but due to an administrative error, they were processed using the Padron (electoral role) list and not the Residencia list. Therefore, some people received cards who were not entitled to, or actually registered on, the national health system. I recommend if you are in doubt you check with your local clinic. There was also a recent report that anyone could register on, and use, the system if they had signed the Padron. We have been advised that this is not the only requirement - if you are a visitor, you will need to present your E111 form, and if you live here, you are expected to have a medical card issued after Residencia application, or pay for private medical care. I have lost my original Escritura - how do I obtain a copy? The original Escritura is the one that has been stamped by the Land Registry, and legally confers a title of ownership. A Copia Simple which, as the name suggests, is a copy of this document, is sufficient in most cases should you need to show your Escritura. This can be obtained from the Notary's office by providing the numero de protocolo (Escritura number) and date of signing your escritura. The Notary can also present you with a certified copy if this is necessary, as a further "original" of every Escritura is held at the Notary's office. If you wish, you can then take this to the Registro (Land Registry Office) for stamping. In both cases, a small charge will be made to undertake this work.
